Mee umbuk umbuk..... A peranakan noodle dish made of slivers or pork belly, salted soy bean paste, bean sprouts, a little soy sauce yellow noodles and garnished with coriander leaves, shredded cucumbers and egg. Served with a side of sambal balachan, this used to be my dad's fav noodles.... Hardly ate it when he was around, but I do like to eat this on and off...... One of the disappearing dishes..... So to prevent it from totally disappearing, I'm leaving the recipe here! hopefully some of you will try to make it, enjoy it and pass it on!
Ingredients
200g pork belly, cut into slivers
1 tablespoon salted soy bean paste
2 teaspoon minced garlic
some cucumber, cut to slivers
corriander leaves
2 eggs, beaten
1 portion of yellow egg noodles
some water
some oil
Method
fry the eggs and cut it into thin strips
In a hot pan, add some oil and sautee the garlic until aromatic
add the pork belly and salted soy bean paste and cook for about a minute
add some water and let it simmer
now add the noodles and let it braise in that broth for a minute or two
plate it and garnish it with the fried eggs, corriander leaves and cucumber
serve with sambal balachan
